El premio de dobles masculino en el Abierto de Australia se disputa desde 1905. Antes del inicio de la " Era Abierta " del tenis moderno, el partido masculino se jugaba en el Campeonato de Australia, y antes de 1927 en el Campeonato de Australasia .
De vez en cuando, los cambios en el calendario del torneo también afectaron a la competencia de dobles masculinos: en 1916-18 y 1941-45, el premio no se llevó a cabo debido a las Guerras Mundiales , en 1977 se jugaron dos campeonatos a la vez (en enero y diciembre), y en 1986 - ninguno (el premio de 1985 se celebró en diciembre y el de 1987 en enero).
